Hillary Clinton V. Rudy Giuliani

The two choices of candidates that I chose would win their party's nomination were Hillary Clinton for the Democratic Party and Rudy Giuliani for the Republican Party. In comparing the two it is evident that they both have much experience in the field of politics and that they are both hard-working, and firm in their beliefs that will result in the outcome for our country's future.

Democratic Presidential Nominee Hillary Clinton is in the lead in the Democratic nomination for the 2008 Presidential Campaign. The lead Clinton holds within her campaign gives her double the support over her rivals. Clinton is a former first lady serving in the Senate in her second term and is most popular within American politics for her well-known name. Hillary Clinton's accomplishments include her ability to raise as much or more money than any of her rivals, and a résumé of political activity that dates back decades, including six years in the Senate and a reelection victory in November. She has also taken upon many harsh attacks from her critics which shows her dedication and strength within politics. Clinton is in fact ahead on the issues within the economy, but her ability to talk or give plans about the war is quite behind.

Rudy Giuliani is in the lead within the Republican Campaign. His passion for establishing safety, and for living up to name to be an outstanding leader for the city of New York proves that he has the ability to be our country's next leader. Giuliani is an anti-gun, pro-gay, and pro-choice former mayor of New York City. While Mayor of New York, Giuliani returned accountability to City government and improved the quality of life for all New Yorker citizens. It was also under his leadership that, overall crime went down 57%, murder has been reduced 65%, and New York City - once infamous around the world for its dangerous streets, has been awarded by the F.B.I. as the safest large city within the United States for the past five years.

In comparing the views of both Clinton and Giuliani in the issue of abortion, Clinton has held fast to her opinions on the issue. She recognizes the views in preventing unplanned pregnancies, promoting adoption, recognizing the influence of religion in abstinence and championing what she has long called "teenage celibacy". Clinton is pro-choice of the women in the situation realizing it is a moral issue that a person must make on their own. "With all of this talk about freedom as the defining goal of America, let's not forget the importance of the freedom of women to make the choices that are consistent with their faith and their sense of responsibility to their family and themselves."
"Note the concluding words: faith, responsibility, family. This is the other side of Clinton's message: against the ugliness of state control, she wants to raise the banner of morality as well as freedom."

When confronted by issues in dealing with abortion, Giuliani holds the view of abortion as a "moral wrong, yet as an individual right". "Church leaders say they are frustrated by prominent Catholic politicians like Mr. Giuliani who argue that while they are personally opposed to abortion, they do not want to impose their beliefs on others." Mr. Giuliani said, "My view on abortion is that it’s wrong, but that ultimately government should not be enforcing that decision on a woman." Many American people, specifically Catholics, are perplexed and wonder why Giuliani does not seem to be taking a grounded and responsible response to the issue of abortion. According to different sources and in analyzing different quotes it seems as though, he knows what he believes, but seems as though he does not want to believe what he wants to uphold for the country.

In conclusion to comparison of the positions which Clinton and Giuliani hold on the issue of abortion, it is my opinion, and not other sources, but simply through reviewing speeches and quotes of the two candidates that Hillary Clinton seems as though she knows precisely the view she holds and is in pursuit to bring resolution to the issue of abortion. Now, Giuliani is firm in his position, yet has moral issues on the subject yet seems though that he feels he must say what the country wants to hear. In the end, both candidates are pro-choice.

Hillary Clinton is a very intelligent, strong, and liberal woman that I believe will be in the running for the 2008 Presidential Elections. She has shown leadership with being a Senator and she has proven herself a woman who is ready to take on political issues and fend for herself. I truly believe she has a great opportunity to win, but she has two factors that I believe do not work in favor. What are these two issues that could result in her loss? First, she is a woman. I don't care what anyone says or believes, I do not think our country is ready to elect a woman for President of our country;it doesn't seem natural and the fact that she is such a strong, liberal woman may not result in her benefit either. The second issue is that she holds the Clinton name. She is Bill Clinton's wife and people of America may not be ready for the Clinton family to be back in the White House. Though these reasons may seem very vague, I believe they are exactly what is going through the minds of the people in our country. Rudy Giuliani has also shown great leadership by being the Mayor of New York City and I believe he is firm in his beliefs and he could lead this country in a manner that is sufficient, but I believe it is his "wish-washy" responses to main political issues that may take him down and create an uneasy feeling among the American people. All in all, I believe Giuliani will win the 2008 Presidential election strictly because the country is not ready, or perhaps a bit unknowing with the fact that a woman would be running the country.

Top Four Republican Candidates for 2008 Primary Election

Rudy Giuliani's life in politics started when he held the position as Mayor of New York. The following quote by Giuliani sums up that which he will be facing within foreign affairs if elected as president: "The next U.S. president will face three key foreign policy challenges: setting a course for victory in the terrorists' war on global order, strengthening the international system the terrorists seek to destroy, and extending the system's benefits. With a stronger defense, a determined diplomacy, and greater U.S. economic and cultural influence, the next president can start to build a lasting, realistic peace." When confronted by immigration issues and Thompson's case to crackdown on immigration, Giuliani presented the case in which he stated "I'm the one who can bring about immigration reform."

Fred Thompson has not been in the running for president long, in fact only a month, yet he even, for as short as this has been people have found the time make an argument and case against him. Thompson has set the case in which he believes that his rival candidates are "soft on illegal immigration" in which he used the fact that Giuliani sued the federal government to keep his city's sanctuary policy and because Romney dealt with sanctuary cities as Massachusetts' governor. "Taxpayer money should not be provided to illegal immigrants." The fact is that no one is taking Senator Thompson seriously, and he is not making much of a name for himself within his position. It has been within circumstances with CNN that he did not show up for a show and another instance in which within his campaign that he has not shown any progress or passion for that in which he is attempting to stand for, meaning he is not showing voters a clear vision of what he sees for the future of America.

John McCain is known for being a champion at finance reform. He was elected into Congress in 1982 and has held the position as U.S Senator of Arizona since 1987. It was within the election of 2000 that McCain ran for Republican Presidential candidate, yet lost to George Bush. He is most known for his bipartisan collaborative efforts within the Senate, and in all fairness is equally bipartisan within his own criticism. McCain has long been labeled a "maverick" by the press. This name is mainly for his ability and confidence to go out on his own, but it is with this confidence that we are able to see just why he has earned this name, and example is his willingness to co-sponsor the McCain-Feingold campaign finance bills. Many voters disagree with McCain and it is this dissatisfaction that his polls have spiralled downward.

Mitt Romney is Massachusetts' former Governor and has been recognized far and wide for his strength as a leader and his accomplishments as a public servant and within private enterprise. It was when he first entered the office as governor that Massachusetts was losing jobs every month and by the time Romney left office the rate was lower and hundreds of companies were able to grow and expand. Mitt Romney had this to say in relation to his opinion on foreign policy, "Washington is as divided on foreign policy as it has been at any point in the last 50 years. As the "greatest generation" did before us, we must move beyond political camps to unite around bold actions in order to build a strong America and a safer world. We must strengthen our military and economy, achieve energy independence, re-energize civilian and inter-agency capabilities, and revitalize our alliances."

It is evident that the public is in favor of Giuliani at the time, but in the case of who is a strong leader and who the public may see as who they feel comfortable with well, that comfort seems to me as though it would lie with Romney. In reviewing his leadership positions and his work as Governor of Massachusetts, I hold the opinion that he may be favored by the public. Yet, Giuliani is experienced and has been by New York's side, along with our country in the tragedy during 9/11. I feel as though, in reviewing Giuliani's position within the campaign that he too is experienced and liked by the people. He knows what obstacles he is to face if President and he is prepared to take on the task and he lets this be known. It is if Giuliani keeps this "knowing the task ahead" view up that he will take the Republican Priary.

Top Democratic 2008 Presidential Candidates

Democratic Presidential Nominee Hillary Clinton is in the lead in the Democratic nomination for the 2008 Presidential Campaign. It is according to the Washington Post-ABC News poll that she was shown as the favorite out of 41 percent of Democrats. This lead gives Clinton double the support of her rivals. Clinton is a former first lady serving in the Senate in her second term. Hillary Clinton is most popular within American politics for her well-known name. Clinton is supported by a national network.

Barack Obama, as of now, holds the position as Senator of Illinois and follows the policy in which suggests hope. This hope is that which took him into the spotlight within politics. Obama is very charismatic, positive, and simply straightforward within his speech. His strength and support is in his potential to shape America and to reshape U.S. politics as he campaigns for the White House. Obama lacks addressing Homeland Security, yet is covered in the areas of Iraq and education. His recent accomplishments include working with both Democrats and Republicans in helping working families to get ahead by creating programs such as the state Earned Income Tax Credit, which within three years has produced over $100 million in tax cuts across the state of Illinois.

John Edwards was the former Senator of North Carolina and ran as the Democratic nominee for the Vice President in 2004 and now stands in third place within the Democratic campaign. His weaknesses within the campaign include his constantly changing view about Iraq and he never has much to say on Health and Education. His strength can be seen within issues of economics and his ability in having great charisma and an easy-going speaking style.

Bill Richardson has a long history in the realm of politics in that he has been a stint as U.N. ambassador, and New Mexico's governor. Richardson's strong arguments lie within the issues of Iraq, Health, and Education. His weaknesses within the campaign are those which address or rather what he does not address within the Economy and Homeland Security, and these topics will need serious attention within the upcoming months. In being that he is in fourth place within the campaign it will take much time, dedication, and hard work to come to the top and debate with the top contenders.

I truly believe the DNC nomination will be tight between Clinton and Obama. Both of their political views within the government, aspects on the war, strength in their speeches, and driven personalities will produce great competitiveness within the Democratic party. Hillary Clinton is not only a strong candidate in her opinions, but she is a strong woman in general and this is very evident when listening and examining her speeches. I believe that she will win the DNC nomination and be a strong contender against the Republican candidate. A gut feeling within me says though that there is a bump in the road in the fact that because she is a woman in politics she does not hold this position with absolute certainty because our country may not be prepared to make that leap of a leading woman within politics.
